Associazione Marchigiana Attività Teatrali

Founded in 1976, AMAT is recognized and funded by the Ministry of Culture and by the Marche Region Administration. Its role is promoting and managing the performing arts activities (drama, dance, music, contemporary circus) in the Marche Region in collaboration with more than 80 associated entities, most of which are Town councils.

AMAT programs performances in many different venues, especially historical theatres but also other types of contemporary buildings, involving a wide range of productions and companies, paying particular attention to the plurality of artistic languages. The programs and seasons are accompanied by a huge number of opportunities for audience engagement.

AMAT is partner in many international projects (through the Creative Europe and Erasmus+ programs) as well as non-formal education initiatives and workshops dedicated to all kinds of audiences and potential ones. It also supports emergent artists and diffuses best practices, sharing actions with a high number of colleagues and networks (Anticorpi XL, In-Box, Scenario, etc.).

A Creative Residencies Program has been developed by AMAT in the Marche Region since 2015, with special attention to venues in Pesaro and Civitanova Marche, with the double aim to offer opportunities to the artists and to allow a real exchange and dialogue between the communities and the creative process.

AMAT has been awarded 2 times with Premio UBU, the most important Italian prize for theatre, for the extraordinary level of experimentation in initiatives created and implemented by the organization.
