Pursuing research on the ancestral relationship between music and dance, Parini Secondo finds a new horizon of choreographic experimentation in the word Incanto (‘enchantment’). ‘Enchantment’ stands for a state of perceptual rapture that a person, an object, or an action can provoke in the context and in the people who inhabit it: a form of absolute amazement that bewitches and petrifies those who undergo it. This process is produced by trance music, built on continuous cycles of tension and release in which hypnotic transport constantly builds up. These melancholic ascents lead to a suspended perception of time: a muffled but brilliant reality that leaves behind logical thinking to approach magical thinking. Movement research follows the musical route by using wave and spiral dynamics to create hypnotic forms. The loop induced by these kinetic chains evolves through repetition. The bodies are transformed into a resonant stage mass that attempts to seduce and enchant the spectator. The choreography, compressed in a reduced portion of the stage, is forced to open into the imaginative plane suggested by trance music: as if peering at the world through a six-inch window from the limited horizon of our bedroom.
