The signature style of the Dewey Dell group has always been influenced by the animal kingdom. Le sacre du printemps, by Igor Stravinsky, in its choreographic score, composed by Teodora Castellucci, Agata Castellucci, Vito Matera and Demetrio Castellucci, starts from the original core of the work, which sees the sacrifice of a life as the forward movement from which more life on earth originates.

In every metamorphosis and great change of human beings, death is always next to life, appearing as a rite of passage or an inner revolution. In the animal and plant world the simultaneous presence of life and death becomes even more literal; death is often part of the reproduction process, and there is plenty of life on decomposed carcasses. Especially in the insect world, from seeds to mould, death is an expanded presence: death is an invitation to life. The cyclical regeneration of the seasons and fertility of the earth are not a linear process, but rather the upheaval of all elements. Spring is the period of greatest disruption and the terror of existence is combined with the dizzying joy of being there. The show won the DANZA&DANZA “Italian production” award in 2023.

Biography

Dewey Dell is an Italian dance and performing arts group active since 2006 that currently includes Teodora Castellucci, Agata Castellucci, Vito Matera, and musician Demetrio Castellucci.

Their choreographic research is continuously inspired by the images of art history and the behaviours of the animal kingdom, and in recent years they have explored anthropological themes.

Dewey Dell has created dance works that combine different art forms, pursuing other lines of experimentation in music performance and video art.
