VN searches for the closest relation between dance and music, in order to emancipate body’s expressive potentialities, gesture’s grace, the convertibility between impulse and decision in the space, between determination and unexpected in which the human attempts to his-self as pure potential. The choreographic dimension makes use of different methods in generating an aesthetic experience in which the space between reality and appearance, the individual and the community constitutes a renovated space of freedom for the sensitive, a different political posture for bodies.
In its 1943 version for string orchestra, Verklärte Nacht gives the start to articulate a visceral dance, with a duets succession in which the body’s instinct in musical listening overcomes the concept, designing the dynamic picture of the artistic gesture. It’s Schönberg’s score, which in 1950 the same author described as “pure music”, that conduces interiority and makes the impersonality of dance vibrate as a potential, as the origin and as the material of a sense yet to come.
It is therefore the most direct relationship with the choreographic form proposed as a discipline and rigorous dedication to the question that every profound change of the body and of language produces. It is an ecology of experience where everything goes forward in order to involve in a single moment the processes of thought, sensitivity, imagination, the movement physicality, attention, the aesthetic adherence to a dizziness without distinction between matter or form. It is a slow, inexorable process of an indicative present in which the instant is nothing but the appearance of an extended time, the ancient character of an eternal return. Its Schönberg who gives us the best interpretation key of this bet again: when the form is in place everything can be pure feeling.
Cristina Kristal Rizzo, dancemaker, has been a part of the Italian contemporary dance scene since the early 90s. She is one of the Kinkaleri founders, a company with which she collaborated actively going through the international contemporary choreographic scene and receiving numerous awards. Since 2008, she undertook a personal career based on choreographic production, orienting her own artistic research towards theoretical reflection signed by a strong dynamic impact. Currently one of the most important choreographic realities whose work is hosted on the most renowned festival of the international scene.
In addition to her production work, she has developed an intense activity of conferences, workshops and experimental proposals. As guest choreographer, she created choreographic works for prestigious institutions in Italy and abroad, such as Teatro Comunale of Florence - Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, AterBalletto, Balletto di Toscana, LAC Lugano, MACRO Roma, Museion Bolzano, and Museo Pecci di Prato.
Since its foundation in 2007, CAB 008 Association has worked on productions by a number of choreographers who have decided to focus on their own innovative, personal research after acquiring extensive experience at important companies in Italy and abroad.
Over the years, the Association has chosen to adopt the particular approach of empowering young choreographers in their experiments, facilitating the participation of a new generation of dancers in performances and co-productions together with other important production at both national and international level, such as the Fondazione Musica per Roma, the Fondazione Fabbrica Europa, and the Venice Biennial.
CAB 008 also dedicates great attention to constant supplying performances with support in every stage of development.
CAB 008 is particularly interested in works centered on the body and the relationship between human beings and the world, along with the search for innovative language capable of creating a strong link with the present historical time through choreographic movement.
With its special grammar, profound meaning, research, and relations with interesting new artistic pathways, dance is what CAB 008 pursues with steady commitment. Dance is its mission.
The Artistic direction is collective and coordinated by company choreographers and its President, Roberto Mansi.
The Company has functioned with the support of contributions from the Tuscany Region since 2010 and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities since 2012.
