The NID in Vicenza adds new stages to the international residency project launched in 2019, which, together with the section dedicated to Open Studios, has brought into focus the reflection on internationalisation and support of creative processes.
The residencies project is an important tool to promote the Italian dance system at an international level, demonstrating how vibrant the Italian scene is, as well as its capacity to build lasting links with international partners. It has thus become a sustainable model that some Italian Cultural Institutes (currently in Montreal, Cologne, Hamburg, Paris, London, Zurich, Vienna, Taiwan and Oslo) are promoting in their own areas to expand collaborations with local dance organisations and professionals, supported by the already existing international relations of the NID Platform.
The following are the further steps made so far:
Taiwan
The NID Platform in Vicenza has launched an important new collaboration for a bilateral exchange with Taiwan. The partners Shinehouse/Want to Dance Festival and the Teatro Comunale di Vicenza respectively hosted in artistic residency the company Parrini Secondo and the Taiwanese artists Chieh–Hsuan Yen, I-Chun Hsieh and Pei-Tzu. The project was made possible thanks to the support of the Italian Economic, Trade and Cultural Promotion Office in Taipei, the Taiwanese Ministry of Culture and the Representative Office of Taipei in Italy.
NORVEGIA
The presence of foreign institutional and professional delegations at the NID Platform has led to agreements between the Italian Ministry of Culture and single Italian Cultural Institutes, thus outlining an institutional framework and shared strategy within which to place the artists’ work.
The most recent was the delegation of Norwegian professionals who attended the 2023 NID in Cagliari, who together with Italian centers launched the Italy/Norway residency project for the realization of 8 bilateral artistic residencies during the two-year period 2024/25. An articulated project that aims to create a network of artistic exchanges for dancers and choreographers from both countries to share best practices.
The Norwegian partners involved are the BIT Teatergarasjen, the Fjelldansen Choreographic Center, the DansiT-Choreographic Center, the Dance Southeast Norway, and for Italy Arboreto-Teatro Dimora di Mondaino, Fondazione I Teatri Reggio Emilia, Fabbrica Europa, Anghiari Dance Hub.
The project is supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Italian Cultural Institute in Oslo, the Performing Arts Hub Norway and the Norwegian Embassy in Rome.
QUEBEC/CINARS
In collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Italian Cultural Institute in Montreal, with the support of CALQ and the Delegation of Québec in Rome, the residence exchange with the Agora de la danse of Montreal and Italy has been renewed for a third edition. This year, it will be Quebecer Dorian Nuskind-Oder together with two performers who will be hosted by the Fondazione I Teatri in Reggio Emilia.
Remaining in Quebec, a Focus on Italian dance will be presented for the first time in the Off Section of the Biennale CINARS 2024 at the Agora de la danse.
