We don’t live in empty, neutral space. We live, die and love in a squared, cut out, diverse space, with bright and dark areas, slopes, steps, depressions and humps, with some tough regions as well as crumbly, permeable, porous ones.

Michel Foucault

Somewhere is the result of a reflection on how the spaces we live in influence human relations and to what extent some of these can intensify the sense of loneliness of bodies and their potential relational vacuums. Starting from research work on non-places, Lucia Guarino and Ilenia Romano investigate the relationship mechanisms present in these spaces and that, owing to their characteristics, fuel alienation, individualism, desolation and depersonalisation.

Ours are parallel lives that sometimes deviate and become intertwined in either actual or deceptive encounters, that perceive the Other starting from their inner boundaries. They unavoidably attract each other and interact between the visible and the invisible. They allow themselves be “touched” by a gaze, they exchange the pace of their steps, but not the real and imaginary personal existing path. They rebuild a common language with flawed choruses, lively gestures with an unsteady balance made of echoes and differences. They seek new paths. They reach many everywhere and many nowhere, getting lost in shady cracks and stretches of light, following a timeless time. Where Are We? Somewhere seeks to be a statement of hope that I and the Other, monads of the same system, can recognise each other, meet again and greet each other, anywhere… somewhere.
