INTERNATIONAL RESIDENCIES: A SUSTAINABLE TOOL

The international residency project has established itself as an effective means of promoting Italian dance abroad, enhancing the national scene and fostering long-term collaborations. This model, replicable and adopted by various Italian Cultural Institutes (including Montreal, Cologne, Hamburg, Paris, London, Zurich, Vienna, Taipei and Oslo), encourages reciprocal exchanges with foreign artists and organizations, expanding professional opportunities for dancers and choreographers.

Structured through partnerships between institutions and professional organizations, the residencies represent an additional tool supported by NID Platform to strengthen synergies between Italian and international artists and professionals working in the contemporary dance scene. The project has been made possible thanks to interinstitutional agreements and partnerships managed directly between MiC and MAECI, generated within the framework of NID Platform and promoted by ADEP through the partners involved.

Italy-Norway Dance Residencies

Italy-Norway Dance Residencies is a collaborative project coordinated and promoted by NID Platform, MiC, PAHN_Performing Arts Hub Norway, Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Oslo and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Rome.

Launched in 2024 as a pilot project, the initiative promotes residency exchanges between Italian and Norwegian artists in the dance field, with the aim of fostering artistic collaboration between the two countries. The goal is to develop a long-term artistic residency model for their respective communities, offering dance professionals support for residencies of varying duration both in Italy and Norway.

In addition to supporting research and the development of new works, the project encourages dialogue between the two choreographic scenes, fostering the creation of professional networks and promoting future collaborations.

The Italian partners are: Anghiari Dance Hub, L’arboreto – Teatro Dimora, Fabbrica Europa, Fondazione I Teatri.
The Norwegian partners are: Bærum Kulturhus – Dance in Southeast Norway, BIT Teatergarasjen, DansiT – Choreographic Center, Davvi – Centre for Performing Arts.

Residencies with K3 | Tanzplan Hamburg and Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Amburgo

The residency programme International Choreographic Exchange Programme, promoted by K3 | Tanzplan Hamburg, represents an important opportunity for international exchange and growth for emerging choreographers. Every summer, up to eight artists from different countries are invited to Hamburg for a one-month residency dedicated to artistic research, the development of creative work, participation in workshops, and exchange with professionals from the international contemporary dance scene, within the context of Kampnagel’s prestigious summer festival.

Since 2022, the collaboration between Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Amburgo and K3 has made possible the launch of this project, which also originated thanks to NID Platform.

The artists hosted in residence at K3 have been:

  • 2022 – Sara Sguotti
  • 2024 – Luna Cenere and Daniele Ninarello
  • 2025 – Gennaro Lauro
