A sense of inadequacy is the ultimate barrier to any connection, including the one we have with ourselves. That acute sensation of being out of place, different, somehow flawed, judged or misunderstood is universal. It can manifest as a dense fog, a veil, or a glass wall separating the self from the world, a state often born from the desire to live up to the expectations of others. It carries the crushing weight of risk, the fear of failure, and the internalised anxiety of being a disappointment or an impostor. Drawing from these profound insecurities, Enrico Morelli explores this state of alienation on stage. The piece is fueled not only by his own lived experience but also by that of the dancers, whom he asked: ‘When you feel inadequate and out of place, what is it like?’

Enrico Morelli

Dancer and choreographer Enrico Morelli graduated from the Accademia Nazionale di Danza in Rome in 1999, where he also completed an advanced teacher training programme. He has won multiple choreographic competitions, including the Michele Abbate Competition in Caltanissetta, the Città di Perugia Competition, the Rieti International Festival and the Danza Estate Competition in Florence. In 2001, he was awarded the Silver Medal of the President of the Italian Republic for his outstanding performance skills. Morelli has created choreographies for MMCDC, Astra Roma Ballet, the Ballet School of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Dominic Walsh Dance Theatre, Palermo InDanza, KAOS-Firenze, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Szegedi Kortárs Balett, Milwaukee Ballet and the Serbian National Ballet. He joined MMCDC as a dancer and choreographer in 2004 and later became co-director of the Agora Coaching Project alongside Michele Merola in 2010. In 2025, he was appointed MMCDC’s resident choreographer.
