‘Is the dream over? The dream is over!’ We feel ourselves pierced straight through by Cupid’s arrows: images—yet we ourselves are made of images, intersections of signs, senses, places, dimensions, and colours. The image that moves us is inherently fragile and fleeting. Perhaps the dream can be sensed in the passing of a shadow, which follows it like an animal’s tail, concealed behind its back. Caduta la neve – da Sarah Moon is the final chapter of a trilogy, following two works dedicated to Ana Mendieta and Claude Cahun. This chapter looks instead to Sarah Moon, a French photographer born in Vichy in 1941. At first working as a model, she turned to fashion photography in the 1970s. She began taking photos almost by chance, yet her work went on to shape forty years of style. Starting with Cacharel in the 1970s, she then moved on to Japanese fashion designers Yamamoto and Miyake. Her almost impressionistic shots evoke femininity alongside urban landscapes and nature. The performance translates Sarah Moon’s visual poetics into movement, capturing suspended, blurred atmospheres dominated by black, white, and desaturated colours.
